I’m psychologist & therapist Anne Lindqvist and I now live in the Netherlands in the beautiful and green Het Gooi area, a short commute to Amsterdam, but surrounded by woods & lakes. I’m a Finnish national, but I’ve lived in Cornwall in the UK for nearly 16 years! I’ve also lived for shorter periods in Germany prior to the Netherlands and even in the USA as a child, so I have plenty of experiences of both the joys and challenges of being an expat, as well as a ‘third culture kid’ myself and now also a mother of a daughter who has experienced and adopted a mixture of cultures! I’ve now made my home here with my Finnish husband in this green, friendly little country not far from the sea. We have a grown daughter who actually led the way to the Netherlands, as she completed her Masters degree in Holland. We visited her frequently from Germany, where we lived a few years and during those visits we fell in love with this charming little country and its relaxed ways. That’s why I was overjoyed when my husband was offered a job here. Needless to say, we jumped at the opportunity to move over.
I’m currently taking a sabbatical after 14 years of working mainly for the NHS (National health Service – the public health sector in the UK) and a total journey of 21 years in the field of psychology. I’ve worked both in general practices within Doctor’s clinics, as well as online offering therapy sessions to people suffering from many different types of emotional distress. My educational background is in Psychology and I have a Doctorate in Cognitive Psychology, Post graduate diplomas in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, as well as in Psychological research methods; all of these are from the University of Plymouth in the UK. These degrees are from courses recognised by the BPS (British Psychological Society) & BABCP (British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapy). I also have specialist training in EMDR & trauma work (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing), as well as in ACT (Acceptance & Commitment therapy), which is a Mindfulness approach for working with emotional issues.

I have a passion for wellness as I’m sure you’ve already gathered! I’m currently taking nutritional science courses to further inform my holistic approach. So I’ll undoubtedly share recipes from time to time, as I’m an enthusiastic cook focusing on health supporting veggies, which I’ve been tirelessly increasing in our diet at home. I eat mainly plant-based, but I do still eat fish and a little meat & dairy. You could say I approach meat more as a condiment rather than the star of the show. Diets that are mainly plant-based have a very strong evidence base in terms of supporting good health (i.e. research of ‘Blue Zone’ diets). I believe that it’s important to keep a flexible approach to eating, as strict diets tend to back-fire. Have you heard of the 80/20 rule? This is where 80 percent of the time the aim is to make healthy (often plant-based) choices, but there is 20 percent flexibility to enjoy a few indulgences. Nutrition professionals back this approach, as it’s feasible for many of us, allows for a variety of foods, and avoids deprivation.
Of course, if you have intolerances and sensitivities to certain foods, it’s important to do what is best for your own personal circumstances. We are all different!! Personally I have trouble with lactose and to a lesser degree with wheat, so you won’t see many recipes or food inspiration involving these foods, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat them if they cause no problems. I strongly believe that what we eat can effect not only our bodies but also our psychological well-being and I’ve witnessed this in my work for mental health services. Therefore, I encourage all of us to look carefully at all things that impact our bodies such as diet, exercise, and our environment, when addressing a psychological problem. This will enhance the effect of any psychological therapeutic approaches that might be engaged in!
